Design and Display
The design of the Lava Storm 5G is very simple yet beautiful. The main attraction will be the shiny glass back, which is a rarity in this price range, as most brands opt for polycarbonate or plastic backs. On the back, the top left corner features the dual camera setup along with the flash. The camera housing is a bit odd, not completely on the left but slightly towards the centre. The flash is smaller than the camera rings but has a bump which confuses it as a third camera.
Due to the glass back, the weight of the smartphone is 214 grams which is on the heavier side. As for the frame, it has a plastic frame with a brushed metal finish. On the front, it has a hole-punch cutout which houses the selfie camera. The bezels on the top and sides are about the same size whereas the bezel on the chin is bulky. The display is slightly curved at the edges of the frame which gives a nice premium feel.
The Lava Storm 5G has a 6.78-inch IPS LCD panel which covers about 84.4 per cent of the phone’s front. It has an FHD+ resolution of 1,080 x 2,460 pixels delivering a pixel density of about 396 pixels per inch (PPI). One notable feature for the price it is available is its high refresh rate of 120Hz for smoother transitions. It has support for 16.7 million colours for decent life-like colours.
Performance and Storage
The Lava Storm 5G runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 6080 chipset built on a 6nm architecture. It has an octa-core CPU configuration, featuring 2 high-performance Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.4 GHz and 6 energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.0 GHz. It is equipped with the Mali MC2 GPU that handles the graphics processing. It runs on Android 13 operating system.
The software and UI experience is clean with few apps that can be disabled. Lava comes stock with Andriod 13 but can be upgraded to Android 14 later. It is also set to get 2 years of security updates. As for the RAM and storage option, the Lava Storm 5G is available in 8GB RAM and 128GB options. The RAM also has a virtual RAM feature which can add 8GB of RAM using the storage. The storage be expanded using a MicroSD card using the dedicated card slot.
Camera
The Lava Storm 5G has a dual-camera setup on the back. It features a 50MP main camera with PDAF for decent detailed photos, alongside an 8MP ultrawide camera. An ultra-wide camera is pretty rare in the price range with most smartphone brands opting for a depth sensor. The rear camera has various features like Film, Slow Motion, Timelapse, UHD, GIF, Beauty, HDR, Night, Portrait, AI, Pro, Panorama, Filters, and Intelligent Scanning. As for video recording, it supports 2k videos and 1080p videos at 30fps.
The front camera on the Storm 5G is a 16MP shooter which clicks decent sharp selfies and videos. As for video recording, it supports 1080p videos at 30fps.
Battery and Others
The Lava Storm 5G has a 5,000 mAh battery which can last a day in mediocre usage. It can be charged using a 33W wired charger which you get in the box. As for connectivity, it supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 5.0 for wireless interactions.
It is equipped with both LTE and 5G network capabilities for faster data speeds. Its dual SIM feature allows for versatile usage across networks.
