The two-wheeler market of Nepal is currently searching for sporty and efficient scooters with great performance. There are some scooters such as TVS Ntorq 125, Aprilla SR 150, Benelli Zen Zero 150, Aprilla SR 125 and Italica Formula 150 within the range.
Meanwhile, Yamaha is also about to launch Yamaha Aerox 155, its sporty scooter sharing the same engine as its famous bike, Yamaha R15. Exciting, isn’t it?
While Yamaha is set to bring this scooter very soon to the roads of Nepal, here are the details of the scooter.

Design
The design concept of Yamaha Aerox 155 is based on the “Heart-Shaking Speedster” design principle with proud body size, athletic proportions and the X centre motif as the main focus points. It is named a maxi-scooter, meaning it has an engine of over 125cc and can do long touring whilst using larger frames than normal scooters with longer wheelbase. Its design is very sporty with a matte and glossy finish all around using different colour patterns.
The LED headlight with daytime running lights is very stylish. The headlight design gives a very similar vibe to the 2017 Yamaha R3, which is one of the best-looking 300cc bikes. The tail light also has an LED with an aggressive look.
The seats on Yamaha Aerox 155 are two-level, providing a steady and comfortable ride for both the rider and the pillion rider. The exhaust has a stylish cover. The coloured alloy wheels with the accents of the bike feel very sporty.
The leg rest is also not like other scooters with open space between the handle and the seat. The space is occupied by the external fuel lid and the leg rest is at the sides like that of a motorbike. The external fuel lid makes rides more convenient to refill the tank.
Performance
Yamaha Aerox 155 shares the same engine as Yamaha R15. It has a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC and 4-valve 155cc displacement engine, which generates a maximum power of 11 KW at 8000 rpm and a maximum torque of 13.9 Nm at 6500 rpm. The fuel system is injected and the starting system is an electric starter.
It has a V-belt automatic transmission type, which allows it to achieve a top speed of 120km/h. It can achieve speeds of 0-40kmph in 3.30 seconds, 0-60kmph in 6.26 seconds, 0-80kmph in 10.91 seconds and 0-100kmph in 18.51 seconds. It has a 5.5-litre fuel tank, which gives an average mileage of 48kmpl as claimed by the company.
Brakes, tyres and suspension
Yamaha Aerox 155 also stacks plenty of safety features. It has a 230mm disc brake with ABS in the front and a 130mm drum brake at the back. On the front, it has a 110/80-14M/C 53P tubeless tyre and on the back has a 140/70-14M/C 62P tubeless tyre.
The front of the scooter has a telescopic fork suspension with the inner tube being 26mm in diameter. The back includes a unit swing twin shock absorbers which make the passenger have a smooth ride.
Instrument cluster
Yamaha Aerox 155 has a blue-colour background instrument cluster display, which allows you to see clearly in direct sunlight too. The display shows many things such as speed, fuel left, mileage, right and left indicators, time, Bluetooth connection, battery charge and total distance travelled.
It is also compatible with the Yamaha Connect app with Bluetooth connectivity allowing you to see its details such as fuel consumption tracker, maintenance recommendations, last parking location, malfunction notification, revs dashboard and ranking on your mobile. Its Bluetooth connection allows you to see incoming calls, message alerts and your phone charge in its instrument display.
