Kathmandu, April 24
The Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited has resumed distributing water from the Melamchi Water Supply Project in Kathmandu after a year.
Water Supply Minister Uma Kanta Chaudhary inaugurated the redistribution from the KUKL office in Minbhawan of Kathmandu this morning.
The water arrived at the treatment centre in Sundarijal of Kathmandu last week.
KUKL spokesperson Prakash Rai says the KUKL branches in Minbhawan, Mahankal and Khumaltar have begun distributing the Melamchi water today. He informs other brands will do so gradually in the next few days.
Rai says the KUKL has received just around 50 million litres of water per day now, but it will soon grow to 170 million litres and then, 160,000 consumers will get the supply.
A massive flood in the Sindhupalchok town in June 2021 has severely damaged the infrastructures of the Melamchi project making it unable to resume the water supply to the capital suspended for two months for some technical works. The project launched the water supply just in March 2021.
