As many as 146 members of the recently dissolved House of Representatives on Monday have filed petitions at the Supreme Court demanding the court issue an order to reinstate the house.
They have also demanded that the court order President Bidya Devi Bhandari to appoint Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba the prime minister stating they support him for the position.
The lawmakers representing the Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre, Madhav Kumar Nepal-led faction of the ruling CPN-UML, Upendra Yadav-led faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, and Rastriya Janamorcha claim the government’s decision to dissolve the House is unconstitutional. They also argue President Bhandari’s decision that Deuba was not qualified for the PM is also unconstitutional as 149 lawmakers had submitted their signatures backing him.
The petitioners have demanded that court hear the case in a constitutional bench led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana.
