Six arrested at ‘VIP gambling den’ file habeas corpus petition

Kathmandu, October 28

Six of 25 persons arrested at a gambling den in Kathmandu in the wee hours of Sunday have filed a habeas corpus petition at the Supreme Court.

Bala Ram Sapkota aka Bale and Casino King, contractor Pawan Kumar Gupta, industrialist Shrawan Kumar Goyal, Air Dynasty operator Pabitra Kumar Karki, Bikram Gautam and Mukti Lama filed the writ. Following the petition, police are preparing to produce them before the court this afternoon.

While arresting them, police had confiscated Rs 26.7 million in cash and a cheque of Rs 300,000 from their possession.

Meanwhile, police are preparing to file a case against them as per the Gambling Act.
