Police raid Kathmandu’s ‘VIP gambling den’, arrest 25, confiscate Rs 26.7 million

Police arrested 25 persons while they were gambling in Maharajgunj of Kathmandu in the wee hours of Sunday. Police have claimed the place they raided was not a normal gambling den, but a mini-casino that many ‘VIPs’ from corporate families would visit.

Police also confiscated Rs 26.7 million in cash from the scene. A cheque with a face value of Rs 300,000 was also found there. Police had spent three hours in counting the money.

Earlier, the law enforcers were tipped off last night that gambling was ongoing at a private house behind Hotel Shambala.

DSP Umesh Lamsal of the Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj, informs that the arrestees will face a charge as per the Gambling Act.
