Kathmandu, December 8

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), alleging human rights violations against its president, Rabi Lamichhane, during his transfer from Chitwan to Pokhara.

The complaint claims Lamichhane has been subjected to various forms of mental harassment since his arrest on October 19. It highlights that state authorities have engaged in inhumane, degrading, and extrajudicial actions against him, urging the NHRC to take notice.

RSP alleges that state mechanisms were misused during Lamichhane’s nighttime transfer to Pokhara on December 5. The party described the transfer as an act of state terror aimed at torturing and demeaning a political leader from a rival party under various pretexts.

“This is a deliberate misuse of state power to torture and defame a political rival. Such actions violate fundamental human rights and constitute state terror,” reads the complaint.

The party further accused state authorities of using media outlets to propagate Lamichhane as a criminal, tarnishing his image intentionally.

RSP has called for an impartial investigation into the alleged human rights violations and other related incidents. It emphasised the need for active intervention by the NHRC to safeguard judicial integrity, rule of law, and democratic human rights.

The party expressed its expectation that the NHRC would take proactive steps to ensure justice and protect Lamichhane’s rights.
