Playoff race heats up: Karnali Yaks and Kathmandu Gurkhas in tense battle

Although there is only one game left of the Nepal Premier League’s league stage, the four teams playing in the playoffs have not been decided yet.

Everyone is curious about who will be in the top four teams, which top two teams will play qualifiers, and who will compete in the eliminators.

Only after a match between Sudurpaschim Royals and Karnali Yaks, happening on December 16, will all these things be determined. Till now it has been confirmed that Sudurpaschim Royals, Janakpur Bolts and Chitwan Rhinos have confirmed their place in the playoffs. Now Karnali Yaks and Kathmandu Gurkhas are in a run to confirm their place in the playoffs.

Karnali Yaks will play their last game of the league stage on December 16 but Kathmandu Gurkhas have played all the games of the league stage. In the present context, both Karnali Yaks and Kathmandu Gurkhas have eight points. The net run rate of Karnali Yaks is 0.095 and Kathmandu Gurkhas is -0.321.
Sundharpaschim Royals who won against Pokhara Avengers are on the top of the table with 10 points. Out of six matches they have won five of them. As the Sudurpaschim Royals have a better run rate they have a higher probability of securing their place in the top 2. The net run rate of Sudurpaschim Royals is 2.100.

Although Janakpur Bolts also hold 10 points, due to the lower net run rate they are in second place. The net run rate of Janakpur Bolts is 0.164.

After winning the match on December 15, Sudurpaschim Royals has strengthened the possibility of playing the first qualifier by being in the top two.

Now in the last match of the league stage, Sudurpaschim Royals will play against Karnali Yaks on December 16.

After the match on December 16, the fourth team advancing to the playoffs will be determined. If Karnali Yaks avoid losing by a significant margin against Sudurpaschim, they will secure the fourth position and qualify for the playoffs.

If Karnali Yaks loses to Sudurpaschim Royals by more than 55 runs on December 15, Kathmandu Gurkhas will reach the playoffs by becoming fourth.

Karnali also has a chance to reach the top 2 and for that, they have to win against Sudurpaschim with more than 20 runs.
