Karnali Yaks secured their place in Qualifier 2 of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) after defeating Chitwan Rhinos by 21 runs in the Eliminator match.
Chasing a target of 176 runs, Chitwan managed to score only 154 runs. Despite Ravi Bopara’s half-century, it was not enough to secure a victory as the rest of the team failed to make significant contributions. For Karnali, Zeeshan Maqsood took 3 wickets, while Sompal Kami and Nandan Yadav claimed 2 wickets each. Bipin Prasad Sharma chipped in with 1 wicket.
Bopara scored 53 runs off 34 balls, hitting 3 fours and 4 sixes, marking his third half-century of the NPL. Captain Kushal Malla added 21 runs.
Earlier, after losing the toss and being sent to bat first at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Karnali posted a competitive total of 175 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Jaykishan Kolsawala and William Bosisto both hit half-centuries.
Kolsawala, playing his first NPL match, scored a team-high 53 runs off 39 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Bosisto also contributed 52 runs off 39 balls, hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes. Chadwick Walton remained unbeaten on 46 runs from 23 balls, smashing 4 fours and 3 sixes. Zeeshan Maqsood added 14 runs, while openers Rit Gautam and Gulshan Jha were dismissed without scoring.
For Chitwan, Sohail Tanvir took 2 wickets, while Ravi Bopara and captain Kushal Malla claimed one wicket each.
Karnali will now face the losing team from Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2.
