Chinese EV manufacturer, JMEV (Jiangling Group Electric Vehicle), has launched its first electric car, the JMEV GSE electric sedan, in Nepal. JMEV is the subsidiary brand of the Jiangling Motors Corporation Group (JMCG), which manufactures and supplies pickup trucks, light commercial trucks, and buses. JMEV started its journey in 2015 and quickly gained success in the EV market. In 2019, French automobile manufacturer Renault acquired a 50% stake in the company, which allowed JMEV to gain further success in the EV market.
Shaurya Automobiles is the authorised distributor of the JMEV GSE electric sedan in Nepal. The electric sedan makes its way to Nepal as a competitor in the highly competitive EV market. The GSE has three trim options: Standard, Comfort, and Luxury. The Nepali electric market is highly saturated, making it difficult for newer EV brands to compete in the market. However, JMEV’s partnership with Renault and its focus on affordability could help it carve out a niche.
The electric sedan market in Nepal has just started to flourish, as most are in the luxury category, such as the 2024 Tesla Model 3 and the BYD Seal. The only competitor close enough to the JMEV GSE is the Deepal LO7, which classifies itself as more of a hatchback than a sedan with the attached boot.

The JMEV GSE electric sedan has a modern and bold front design. Its sharp headlights with rectangular LEDs and L-shaped DRLs give it an aggressive and stylish look. The DRLs give the headlights a mean eye look. The aerodynamic bumper with smooth lines improves airflow and efficiency, while the wide grille adds to its clean electric design. The hood has smooth curves that blend well with the front, and the emblem at the centre highlights the brand.
The JMEV GSE has a sleek and sporty side profile that highlights its modern design. It has a smooth roofline that flows seamlessly into the rear, which flows into a coupe-like shape. The 49 kW battery delivers a range of up to 420 km NEDC benchmark, making it ideal for long journeys. As for charging, the AC charging takes about 6-8 hours, and DC fast charging reaches 80% in just 30 minutes. The car’s lightweight body, built using a thermoformed steel-aluminium hybrid design, combines 44 hot-formed steel plates with aluminium, providing a high-strength, lightweight structure for enhanced safety and performance.
The electric sedan’s four-wheel independent suspension, featuring a front McPherson and rear multi-link design, guarantees a comfortable and smooth driving experience. The ventilated disc brakes at the front and standard disc brakes at the rear offer reliable stopping power, while the 215/50 R17 tyres mounted on aluminium alloy wheels ensure durability and stability.
Safety and Features
The JMEV GSE is equipped with advanced safety features to ensure secure and stable driving. It includes an electronic parking brake (EPB), an anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake force distribution (EBD), and electronic stability control (ESC) for enhanced control.
