International scholars gather in Kathmandu for ICSXC-2024 to advance ethical knowledge

Novermber 15, Kathmandu

To foster international collaboration and meaningful dialogue among scholars, early-stage researchers, development activists and academicians, across the world, St. Xavier’s College has organised the second International Conference (ICSXC-2024) in Kathmandu on Thursday.

The ICSXC-2024, themed Advancing Ethical Knowledge and Wisdom: Interdisciplinary Practices and Research, aims to spark critical conversations on global challenges through ethical and interdisciplinary lenses.

Prof. Thlic. Milos Lichner S.J, the Chief Guest of the conference emphasized on patience and dedication St Xavier’s College holds in creating a forum for research and global dialogue. Linchner noted this dedication nurtures ethical principles and produces a synergy of Eastern and Western perspectives.

The keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Richard F. Callahan from the University of San Francisco, USA called for action that the significance of the conference lies not just in dialogue, but in ethical action—whether through teaching, research or by challenging the existing norms.

“Curiosity is the foundation of ethical transformation. The more challenging the need, the more questions we ask and that is the starting of ethical transformation,” Callahan said.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the conference, Father Augustine Thomas S.J, the Principal of the college highlighted that the ICSXC 2024 is not just a conference—it’s a movement, a transcontinental approach that brings together academic minds onto a common platform.

“It is about building the future and therefore, this conference invites us to explore how ethical knowledge can inform and improve practices across disciplines such as social sciences, technology, education, natural sciences, and the humanities,” he added.

In two days conference, Prof. Miwa Hirono from Ritsumeikan University, Japan; Prof. Vini Sebastian of St. Xavier’s Institute of Education, India; Prof. Rameshwor Adhikari of Tribhuvan University, Nepal; Prof. Shaswat Shresthamali, Kyushu University, Japan and Meghnath Dhimal, Senior Research Officer at the Nepal Health Research Council will deliver keynote speeches.

After a plenary session, a total of 50 papers are being presented in three different conference halls, which are being participated by attendees from Nepal, the USA, India, Philippines, Slovakia, Japan, and South Africa.

The ICSXC-2024 is the second edition of the conference after the first successful international conference in 2022.
