Kathmandu, October 27
Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu will close during nighttime hours from November 8 to April 1. During this period, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) plans to maintain the current shift system with a duty schedule of 6 hours and 50 minutes in three shifts. Staff assigned to these additional shifts will receive extra benefits from the authority.
The CAAN management meeting held on October 21 decided to keep the existing duty hours of 6 hours and 30 minutes across three shifts to operate the airport, with a roster published according to the approved all-night quota from the main office, assigning staff as needed.
The meeting also resolved that the administration would cover the benefits for staff deployed during this period. The airport will operate from 10 pm to 8 am.
The CAAN has decided to provide additional allowances even during periods of low flight traffic when fewer staff would normally be required. During this closure period, construction work for parking areas, taxiways, and hangars will be underway. For emergencies, a limited number of staff will be on duty, with an option to assign other employees to alternative tasks.
