Classical music Guru Gurudev Kamat passes away at 69

Kathmandu, August 1

Renowned classical music guru, Gurudev Kamat, passed away this morning at 8 am at his residence in Siraha. His son, Sameer Kamat, confirmed the news.

The 69-year-old maestro’s funeral is scheduled for today. Sameer mentioned that the final rites will be conducted once Kamat’s eldest son, currently in Qatar, arrives home.

Gurudev Kamat, a highly respected figure in the world of classical music, was diagnosed with kidney problems last Chaitra. Due to financial constraints for his treatment, Kamat and his family returned to his birthplace, Pokharbhinda, in Siraha.

In recent times, Kamat had been undergoing dialysis at home. According to Sameer, Kamat had been bedridden and had not eaten anything for the past four days.

The classical music community mourns the loss of a revered teacher and artist whose contributions have left a lasting impact.
