Bechan Jha refuses polygraph test in Bhutanese refugee scam case

Kathmandu, August 14

In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, Bechan Jha, one of the key accused, has refused to undergo a polygraph test. The Kathmandu District Police attempted to conduct the test to verify the truthfulness of Jha’s statements, but he declined, raising further questions about his involvement.

The District Court, Kathmandu, where a case against Jha has been filed, now includes a report detailing his refusal to submit to the polygraph test. Jha has consistently denied any knowledge of the fraudulent activities associated with the Bhutanese refugee scam during his interactions with the police. His statements were made in the presence of a government prosecutor, where he claimed to be unaware of any wrongdoing.

As part of the investigation, police uncovered a check worth two crore rupees issued in Jha’s name by another accused, Ramsharan KC Jha, who denied any knowledge of this transaction. In a further twist, the investigators presented an audio recording of a conversation between Jha and KC, but Jha asserted that the voice in the recording was not his.

According to KC’s statement, KC asked for that amount to make some decisions through the Cabinet. He provided the police with the audio of the conversation he had while going to give the cheque.

According to the officials, in the audio, KC has asked about the decisions taken by the Cabinet. In that process, it is also tried to reassure KC. However, Jha has said that he is ready to test the audio as it is not his.

A case has been registered against him in District Court, Kathmandu on Tuesday for fraud and organised crime.
