7 Bangladeshi nationals rescued in Kathmandu

The Nepal Police have arrested a group who had been holding Bangladeshi nationals hostage, luring them with promises of overseas employment in Poland.

Nepal Police said it rescued seven Bangladeshi nationals and arrested seven people who held them in Kathmandu.

Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office chief SSP Manoj KC said five of the seven arrested are Bangladeshi nationals. Those arrested are Amir Hussain, MD Mossiur, Salim Miya, Jahangir Alam and Tahmina Begum. Police have also arrested two Nepali women, Roshani Rai and Tara Nepali, for helping the Bangladeshis.

Police said those rescued said they had paid Rs 500,000 to go to Poland.

“They were being left stranded in Kathmandu and asked to work in different places. The agents were also asking the families for ransom,” said KC.

Further investigations are ongoing.
