Redmi’s budget smartphones are always the talk in the market. It either brings something very new in the price category or is just slightly upgraded from its predecessor. The same goes for Redmi A2. The A2 is the new budget smartphone soon to be launched by Redmi in Nepal which is the predecessor of last year’s Redmi A1. There isn’t a big difference except for the chipset.

Design and Display
The Redmi A2 is the same in terms of design as the last year’s Redmi A1 and the Redmi A1+. It has a plastic back and frame. Despite its textured back, the plastic construction lacks a soft feel and instead possesses a rough texture. On the front, it has a water drop notch camera placement. The bezel on the sides and top is thin but the bezel on the chin is a bit thick.
The Redmi A2 features a 6.52-inch IPS LCD display with a brightness of 400 nits. It has a screen-to-body ratio of approximately 81.0%. It has a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and a 20:9 aspect ratio, resulting in a pixel density of around 269 ppi.
Performance and Storage
The Redmi A2 is powered by the Mediatek Helio G36 chipset, built on a 12nm process. It has an octa-core CPU configuration, consisting of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and another four Cortex-A53 cores running at 1.7 GHz. It is equipped with a PowerVR GE8320 GPU to handle graphics. It runs on Android 12(Go edition), along with the MIUI interface.
It has one RAM option of 2GB paired with a storage of 32 GB. It has a dedicated MicroSD card slot to increase the storage.
Camera
The Redmi A2 is equipped with an 8MP main rear camera with an aperture of f/2.0. It also features an auxiliary lens, specifically a QVGA lens with an active pixel array of 248 x 328. The rear camera supports video recording in 1080p and 720p resolutions, at 30fps.
For selfies and video calls, the Redmi A2 sports a 5MP front camera with an aperture of f/2.2. The front camera is capable of recording videos in 1080p and 720p resolutions, also at 30fps.
Battery and Others
The Redmi A2 is equipped with a non-removable 5000 mAh Li-po battery and has 10W wired charging. In terms of connectivity, it supports Wi-Fi on the 2.4GHz frequency and Bluetooth 5.0 for connectivity with compatible devices. It has a dual SIM tray along with a MicroSD card slot.
For audio, the Redmi A2 includes a loudspeaker and comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack, allowing users to connect their wired headphones or earphones for personalized audio experiences. It is equipped with an accelerometer sensor, enabling various motion-based features and functions.
The Redmi A2 is available in three colour options: light blue, light green, and black.
The expected price of the Redmi A2 in Nepal is Rs 12,500 for the 2GB RAM and 32GB storage option.
