Kathmandu, June 23

Nepal experienced its largest-ever seizure of the illegal drug lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) in recent history on Friday.

During a special operation conducted by the Narcotics Control Bureau, officials arrested five individuals in possession of 10,130 pieces of LSD.

According to SP Chakra Raj Joshi of the bureau, the police arrested Sugam Mainali from Thamel on June 20 with 7 pieces of LSD.

Mainali’s arrest led them to Mukhya Gurung, Martin Serna and Raj Gautam who were arrested from Kathmandu and Pokhara. Serna is a citizen of the Czech Republic.

Joshi said that based on the statements of Serna and Gautam, the police arrested Italian David Mandio who they believe is the main person of this gang.

The drug is quite prevalent in Nepal since the hippies introduced it in the country in the 60s.

Police say the drug was brought into Nepal from India.
