Kathmandu, June 18
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has requested the government to grant it the authority to investigate corruption within private organisations and non-government originations.
CIAA expresses concerns over the lack of clarity in addressing corruption in various organisations.
Secretary at CIAA, Rameshwor Dangal at a meeting of the State Affairs and Coordination Committee of the National Assembly, said that there is a problem in reducing corruption effectively as there was no government body to look into improper activities at these organisations.
Dangal also asked the CIAA bill, which is in the parliament, to be moved forward quickly.
“The act needs changes according to today’s time. The bill that is tabled in the house has the necessary changes,” said Dangal.
The National Assembly has passed the CIAA bill and forwarded it to the House of Representatives. This bill aims to expand the jurisdiction of the CIAA to include corruption in both public companies and the private sector.
Dangal says that if the House of Representatives passes this bill, it will be easy for the CIAA to work effectively.
The authority has called for an amendment in the constitution to grant it the power to investigate unfair actions in the country. Dangal presented a proposal to the committee regarding this matter.
The CIAA proposal to investigate private organisations, however, has been dismissed by leadership in the past.
