Nepal Police arrested people impersonating to be officials from the Inland Revenue Department from the Bus Park area in Kathmandu on Friday.
District Police office Kathmandu has informed it arrested eight people on charges of extorting money from hotels, restaurants and shops claiming to be government officials.
Police said the people had collected around Rs 500,000 from hotels, restaurants, shops and sidewalk shops in the Bus Park area in Kathmandu.
Those arrested are Meen Bahadur BK, Srijan Bhattarai, Sagar Jang Luhar, Pramisa Tamang, Dudhkala BK, Anjana Tamang, Rajiv Bista and David Dhami informed SSP Bharat Bohra.
According to the police, they were wearing the same uniform as the employees of the Inland Revenue Department and were also carrying identity cards.
A local businessperson called the police after he got suspicious.
The police said that stamps, letter pads, receipts and identity cards similar to those of the Inland Revenue Department were found in Rajiv Bista’s rented flat.
SSP Bohra informed that four businesspersons had filed written complaints against them so far. According to the police, they are being investigated for fraud.
