Kathmandu, September 22

Stakeholders held a roundtable discussion in Kathmandu as a part of the Summit for Democracy focusing on youth participation in democratic processes.

In the first-of-the-series roundtable, held on Tuesday, different representatives from the government, donor agencies, civil society organisations and children and youth were present.

The respective groups held separate discussions after which they committed to including and prioritising inclusive and diverse participation of youth in programmes at all levels of the government, office spaces as well as civic boards and more peer-to-peer interactions.

They also committed to including them in discussions around financial decision-making practices and making child-friendly budgets. The year 2022 has been dubbed the Year of Action.

According to the organisers, the focus was on the child and youth participation in the decision-making process, the role of children and youth in climate change and environmental conservation as well as increased public financing for children and youth.

They also committed to holding a series of roundtable discussions as per the commitments made by Nepal, expressed during the Summit for Democracy in December 2021.

Save the Children International is leading the events in Nepal.
