Design and display

Realme 9 Pro 5G

Realme 9 Pro 5G series is known for its flamboyant and eye-catching design as Realme 9 Pro. It has a glass front, plastic frame and a plastic body build. The plastic back of the phone houses a familiar camera panel, which sticks out a bit. Similarly, the curves to the sides of the phone should provide a more comfortable grip. Like Realme 9 Pro+, the back of the sunrise blue variant also changes colour when exposed to direct sunlight. Strangely, Realme opted for a side-mounted fingerprint sensor on this phone instead of the under-display optical as seen on the base Realme 9 and the Pro+ variants.

Though the body of the phone is made of plastic, it weighs around 195 grams and is 8.50mm in thickness. The phone is both heavier and thicker compared to its predecessor Realme 8 Pro, which weighs only 176 grams and is 8.1mm thick. It is available in midnight black, aurora green and sunrise blue colour options.

On the front is a 6.60-inch IPS LCD display offering a resolution of 2,412*1,080 pixels and 400 PPI density. The screen covers about 90.80% of the body allowing more space for the view. Though the phone offers a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate, an AMOLED display could have been better. The display can also switch between six levels of refresh rates.

Cameras

Realme 9 Pro 5G is also focused on photography like the Pro+ variant. The phone is equipped with a triple camera setup on the back. The main 64MP camera is housed together with an 8MP ultrawide with a FOV of 119 degrees and 2MP macro sensors while on the front is a 16MP selfie shooter. There are numerous photography modes one can dwell on. The phone features Street Photography 2.0 mode which allows the users to take good night photography. It includes neon trail, light trail portrait, rush hour and light painting. This can be a great and interesting way to take pictures and the users can exhibit their creativity through it.

Other camera modes on the phone include 64MP mode, night mode, panoramic view, expert, portrait mode, HDR, ultra-wide, ultra macro, AI scene recognition, AI beauty, filter, bokeh effect control and starry mode.

Realme 9 Pro 5G can also take decent videos in low lights. Both the main and front cameras on the phone are capable of capturing up to 1080p resolution videos at 30fps. The phone includes video modes like slow motion, filter, dual-view, film, time-lapse, AI video, and starry.

Performance and storage

Realme 9 Pro 5G runs on RealmeUI 3.0 based on Android 12. The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G (6nm) chipset and the graphical duties are handled by Adreno 619. This is an updated version of the Snapdragon 690 chipset and should be power-efficient as well. The phone should also receive up to two years of OS updates and at least three years of security updates.

Realme 9 Pro 5G is currently available in 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage options. The memory can be expanded by a microSD card and the phone has a hybrid card slot for it. The phone also has a dynamic RAM expansion mode. With this mode, the user can utilise up to 5GB of ROM space and turn it into RAM to make the phone work smoothly during heavy work or gaming.

Battery life, connectivity and others

Realme 9 Pro 5G has a 5,000mAh non-removable li-po battery backup. With the new power-efficient chipset, the battery should provide enough power to last through a day or two under normal use. The battery can be charged with a 33W dart charger.

The phone supports two sim cards with up to 5G network connectivity. The dual-band wifi support allows the phone to function in two frequency bands and also enables broader roaming capabilities. Similarly, the Bluetooth 5.1 version on the phone can be used for wireless pairing while the USB Type- C 2.0 cable can be used for charging as well as for wired pairing. Furthermore, the phone also supports NFC and GPS. There is a single speaker that resides on the bottom of the phone and also a 3.5mm headphone jack for the audio.

Notable features of Realme 9 Pro 5G are:

  • Flamboyant back panel
  • Thin and light design
  • 120Hz refresh rate and 240 Hz touch sampling rate

  • Street photography 2.0
