Kathmandu, August 26

The Kathmandu metropolitan city has directed its 21 ward offices to monitor underground parking spaces strictly.

The directive comes at a time when the city government under the leadership of young Balen Shah is monitoring commercial buildings and demolishing illegal structures if they obstructed underground parking.

Mayor Shah has also directed the ward offices to monitor the status of basement parking facilities and submit the report to the city office.

“In total, 286 buildings have been approved with such parking facilities,” an official says, adding the city government suspects many of them are used for other purposes, thereby leaving the two- and four-wheelers on the road and pedestrian pavements.
