Kathmandu, July 27
Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has started to randomly drug-test people driving in the valley. The police started to do so on Monday, informed the police.
The police are using a THC kit to test people. The tests will take place in random places on a regular basis.
SP Rajendra Bhatta, a spokesperson from the traffic police, says the office initially started to test buses and tippers but intends to test even cars and bikes.
“There are a lot of accidents taking place due to the use of drugs. We want to stop that and will continue to test people regularly,” says Bhatta.
Bhatta says the police will test the suspicious driver’s urine to test if the person has taken drugs or not. The test will look for drugs like marijuana, brown sugar and other hard drugs too.
