Kathmandu, July 27
The Kathmandu metropolitan city says it will soon double the number of city police personnel.
Currently, the force has only 170 people, but it has decided to recruit 164 more.
The municipal government says the city police will be mainly deployed to control encroachment on pedestrian pavements, traffic management, parking management and other manual jobs.
The city government’s assistant spokesperson Mahesh Kaphle says the local government will contract the personnel for the short term and will not hire them for permanent positions. It, however, has not yet decided if they will be directly contracted by the city government or outsourced from another company, he says.
