Kathmandu city won’t collect and transport waste for one week

Kathmandu, July 21

The Kathmandu metropolitan city says it will not pick and transport waste from the city area for one week as road repairing work is underway at Bancharedanda, the landfill site.

The city government says the road to Bancharedanda has been blocked for up to two kilometres for repair and hence transportation would not be possible for the next few days.

Earlier, the Ministry of Urban Development had requested the city government to halt waste collection and transport for one week.

The Kathmandu city government’s Environment Department Chief Sarita Rai says the rubbish collection has been halted in all 18 local units in the Kathmandu valley.

The valley produces around 1,200 metric tonnes of the garbage every day.
