Jumla: Hydropower infrastructure caves in, kills 3 people

Three people died after being buried when a hydropower project’s powerhouse caved in, in Hima rural municipality in the Jumla district of northwestern Nepal in the wee hours of Friday.

Jumla Assistant Chief District Officer Pramila Rijal says Bimala Rawat (30) and her two sons–Bharat (9) and Surya (7)–died in the accident at around 2:30 am today. Pramila is the wife of Gorak Bahadur Rawat, the security guard there.

Asleep, all of them died on the spot.

The infrastructure of Bhitri Khola Hydropower Project caved in after the water flow increased there, according to police.

The bodies have been taken to the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences for postmortem, according to police.
