Activists demonstrate outside PM’s residence demanding survivor-friendly rape laws

Kathmandu, May 20

A group of activists on Friday staged a demonstration outside the prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar demanding survivor-friendly rape laws in the country.

Their demands include the removal of the statute of limitations for rape cases and making police responsible to investigate suspected rape cases even when there are no complaints.

The demonstrators have named their event Occupy Baluwatar.

The event follows the revelation of an eight-year-old rape case by a beauty pageant organiser. On Wednesday, the survivor on her TikTok had posted video clips narrating the incident and the aftermath, sparking a new round of debate around survivor-friendly rape laws in the country.
