Xiaomi 12 and 12X have been officially released in Nepal. The two smartphones are parts of the flagship Xiaomi 12 series.
Not long ago, Xiaomi also released its premium flagship Xiaomi 12 Pro. The latest release is also the affordable version of the flagship series, with 12X being the most affordable out of the three.
Both Xiaomi 12 and 12X have some similar features to 12 Pro, but at the same time, differ in many aspects as well. For example, they share similar styling. A better display, faster performance, faster chipset, faster-charging capability and a good camera performance can be expected from both phones.
Let’s dig into the details of the phones.

Design and display
Xiaomi 12 and 12X flaunt a similar styling to their Pro sibling. The phones have a glass front and back with an aluminium frame build. The phones have a Gorilla Glass protection on both the front and the back. The phones also get curved sides.
Similarly, the back of both phones houses a camera module. The main camera with the biggest sensor resides on the top and under it lie the other two camera sensors along with a flashlight and 50MP branding. A Xiaomi 5G branding is neatly done at the bottom left part of the back of the phone.
Both Xiaomi 12 and 12X measure 8.16mm in thickness while Xiaomi 12 weighs a little heavier at 180 grams compared to 176 grams of Xiaomi 12X.
On the front of both phones is a 6.28-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels. The display on both devices supports a 120Hz refresh rate and can achieve a peak brightness of up to 1,100 nits. For a clearer and more detailed viewing experience, the phones also support features like HDR 10+ and Dolby vision. Furthermore, for smoother navigation, the display on both phones supports a 480Hz touch sampling rate.
Cameras
Xiaomi 12 and 12X both feature similar camera specifications. Both phones feature a triple camera setup on the back and a single selfie shooter on the front. The 50MP main camera on the back is accompanied by a 13MP, 123-degree FOV ultrawide and a 5MP, 50mm telephoto lens. On the front is a 32MP camera for photos and videos.
Both phones offer similar photography features like long exposure mode with six effects, photo clones, night mode (wide/ultra-wide), 50MP mode and movie frame to name a few. However, Xiaomi 12 features Xiaomi Pro Focus (motion tracking focus/eye-tracking focus/motion capture) which is seen on the Pro variant as well.
Xiaomi 12 and 12X can record videos in 8K resolution @ 24fps. They can also record 4K resolution videos @ 60fps. However, the difference in the cameras is Xiaomi 12 can record HDR 8K videos and HDR10+ 4K resolution videos which are not available in Xiaomi 12X. The main cameras on both phones feature PDAF and OIS for faster and better focus.
Videography features on the phones include Xiaomi pro focus (not available in 12X), ultra night video one-click AI cinema, magic zoom, slow shutter, time freeze, night time-lapse, parallel world, freeze-frame video HDR, video HDR10+, video pro-time-lapse, vlog mode dual video (selfie camera + main camera), video editing, video pro mode, video log format, slow motion video: 120fps, 240fps, 480fps, 960fps, 1920fps (1920fps not available in 12X).
Performance and memory
Xiaomi 12 and 12X differ in terms of performance. Xiaomi 12, the expensive variant, runs on the latest Android 12 with MIUI 13 on top while Xiaomi 12X runs on Android 11 with MIUI 13 on top.
Similarly, Xiaomi 12 is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 1 (4nm) chipset and its graphics are handled by Adreno 730. Meanwhile, Xiaomi 12X is powered by an inferior Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 5G (7 nm) chipset and the graphics are handled by Adreno 650. Hence, there is no doubt which is the superior phone when it comes to performance.
Both Xiaomi 12 and 12X feature a liquid cool technology (super big VC + multilayer graphite sheets+BN film). This technology can help cool the device during intensive use and prolonged gaming sessions.
As for the memory, both phones come with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM on board coupled with 256GB of internal storage. There is no card slot available on the phone for expanding the memory.
Battery life, connectivity and others
Xiaomi 12 and 12X have a 4,500 mAh non-removable li-po battery and support 67W turbocharging. The turbocharging feature can get the phone fully charged in just 39 minutes. Additionally, Xiaomi 12 also offers 50W wireless turbocharging as well as 10W Reverse wireless charging features.
As for the connectivity, Xiaomi 12 and 12X feature dual sims that support 5G connectivity. The phones also support dual-band WiFi and Wifi-6 while Xiaomi 12 supports WiFi 6E as well. Both phones have infrared ports, support GPS systems and are NFC enabled. Xiaomi 12 features Bluetooth 5.2 while 12X features Bluetooth 5.1. Both phones use USB Type-C 2.0 for charging and other connectivity.
Xiaomi 12 and 12X feature hi-res speakers tuned by Harman Kardon. The Dolby Atmos feature on the phones should provide an immersive stereo experience to the users. The phone does not feature a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Xiaomi 12 in Nepal is priced at Rs 92,999 while Xiaomi 12X is priced at Rs 76,999. Currently, only a single 8/256GB variant has been made available by the company for both Xiaomi 12 and 12X.
