Hero Maestro Edge 110 in Nepal: A fair deal with some positives and negatives

Hero Maestro Edge 110 is a new addition from Hero MotoCorp in Nepal.

NGM Hero, the sole authorised distributor of Hero MotoCorp Ltd for Nepal has recently announced the launch of this new scooter in Nepal. This launch has further strengthened the scooter portfolio of the Hero brand in Nepal. Previously, Hero had scooters like Pleasure, Destini and Duet.

The new Maestro Edge 110 has a new design with a first–in–segment LED projector headlamp, ideal start-stop system and Bluetooth connectivity as well. The scooter is focused especially on youth as it not only offers a good riding experience but also enhanced aesthetics with modern technology. Although its performance is quite normal and the engine type is of lower emission standard, the price of such a stylish scooter makes this product a fair bargain.

Let’s get into the details of the scooter.

The new Maestro Edge 110 has a familiar Hero styling. While compared to other Hero scooters, the overall body aesthetics of the scooter looks bulkier. The sporty looks of this scooter come in a matt-finish colour. At the front, it gets a sharper design with LED projector headlamps, triangle-shaped LED DRL and masked winkers.

It looks bulkier from the back as well. At the back, it has an LED taillamp and has an external fuel filling cap.

Performance

Hero Maestro Edge 110 is powered by a 110.9cc air-cooled, four-stroke OHC engine that can generate a maximum power of 5.80 kW@ 7500rpm and a maximum torque of 8.5Nm/5500rpm. This is a standard power figure for a 110cc scooter. This is a BS4-compliant carburettor engine.

Furthermore, this scooter has i3S technology. i3S stands for the idle start-stop system. This means this technology functions by turning off the engine when the vehicle is idle and turning the engine back on automatically when the clutch is pressed. This can make the vehicle more economical.

There is both kick and electric start on the scooter and the scooter can give up to 53 km of mileage while achieving a top speed of 85 kmph. For fuel reserves, Hero Maestro Edge 110 has a 5.5L fuel tank and has an external fuel filling as well, which can be very handy when you are in a rush.

Safety and other features

Talking about the safety feature of Hero Maestro Edge 110, there is an integrated braking system and has only drum brakes on both front and rear ends. The tyres on the scooter are tubeless.

As for the suspension, at the front, there is a telescopic hydraulic shock absorber and unit swing at the rear. Along with the fully digital speedometer, this scooter has Bluetooth connectivity, TBT navigation and a call alert system. These smart features can be useful for riders while travelling.

Along with these smart features, the Hero Maestro Edge 110 also has:

  • Mobile charging port
  • Dual tone seat
  • LED tail lamp
  • Sleeker graphics
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Bigger front wheels
  • Tubeless tyres
  • All digital metre

The price of Hero Maestro Edge 110 is Rs 215,000 and only has a single variant.

Verdict

This is a standard 110cc scooter with the powertrain figures of a regular 110cc scooter. The mileage and the top speed are also typical and nothing is new and exciting in this context. But, what is exciting is the new bulkier look of the scooter and the smart features it has. It has Bluetooth connectivity, a digital metre, mobile charging port and a navigation system that is rarely seen on a 110cc scooter.

Unfortunately, while all other two-wheelers from the companies such as Honda, TVS, Suzuki and Yamaha are coming up with an FI BS6-compliant engine, Hero Maestro Edge 110 comes with a BS4-compliant carburettor engine. Nonetheless, with the price range, this is a good deal. There are no standard emission levels set on vehicles in Nepal. All the scooters were carburettor and BS4 compliant until a couple of years ago and the transition is just taking place right now. While it might take some time for the complete transition of the BS4 engine to the BS6 engine, Hero Maestro Edge 110 offers a better value in the 110cc category in the market right now.
