Supreme Court refutes PM-CJ late-night meeting reports

Kathmandu, May 25

The Supreme Court has refuted media reports that claimed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana had an hour-long meeting on Monday night.

Citing anonymous sources, a few news portals including Image Channel and Nepal Samaya had reported that PM Oli invited CJ Rana to his residence on Monday late night and had a meeting. The reports had raised eyebrows as 146 members of the dissolved House of Representatives had filed a petition against Oli on Monday afternoon.

But, in a statement today, the apex court’s joint spokesperson Devendra Dhakal says the reports were false, expressing concerns over their impact on people’s faith in the independent judiciary.

The statement says the court is serious, aware and sensitive in and committed to independent and capable judiciary and the rule of law.
