A woman from Bajura of the Sudurpaschim province has committed suicide on Saturday after her husband died of Covid-19.

Suresh Kathayat, a resident of Khaptad Chhededaha rural municipality-7 of the Bajura district, had died of a coronavirus infection during treatment at Dadeldhura Hospital yesterday morning. After a few hours, the wife, Sarita Rawat, was found hanging in a nearby forest, according to ward chair Khagendra Rawat.

“Kathayat was admitted to the District Hospital on May 16 after he reported fever and cough, and the hospital referred him to Dadeldhura,” Rawat says, “After his health deteriorated, he was kept on a ventilator. His wife, uncle and brother were taking care of him at the hospital. But, immediately after death, the wife had run away.”

The couple had tied their conjugal knot last year after a long relationship. Kathayat had just completed his master’s degree whereas Rawat was working as an accountant at a local school.

The husband’s body has been cremated on Saturday whereas the wife’s body has been kept at the hospital for an autopsy.
