Kathmandu, June 1
The government has decided to not conduct the secondary education examinations (SEE) this year also citing there is no environment to conduct the annual 10th-grade examinations physically due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
As in the last year, the government decided that the schools would be allowed to asked to evaluate their students and send the scores to the National Examinations Board for certification only.
A cabinet meeting held on Monday evening endorsed a proposal submitted by Education Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha in this regard, according to Law Minister Lila Nath Shrestha.
Once the schools evaluate the students, there will be a risk of generous scoring by the teachers as seen during the 12th-grade examinations last year.
The National Examinations Board had postponed the exams indefinitely citing the surge in the Covid-19 cases in the country. Although students and stakeholders have demanded doable alternatives for a sustainable solution, the government once again has made an ad-hoc decision.
