Nepal President writes to Vladimir Putin seeking support in Covid-19 vaccine import

Kathmandu, May 30

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has written a letter to her Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, asking him to help Nepal purchase Covid-19 vaccines from Russia as soon as possible.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the Nepali Embassy in Moscow is giving the letter to Putin via the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The embassy has already received the letter on Friday.

The government of Nepal is making efforts to purchase Sputnik V vaccines from Russia, which the government has already approved. However, substantial progress has not been made yet.

Of late, President Bhandari has launched diplomatic efforts to import Covid-19 vaccines to Nepal. Her telephone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping resulted in Beijing’s announcement of one million doses as a grant. She has communicated Nepal’s concern with Indian President Ram Nath Kovind also.
