9 injured as Nepal’s border police clash with Indian traders

Mahottari, May 24

Nine persons have been injured when a team of the Armed Police Force guarding the Nepal-India border clashed with a group of Indian traders in Matihani municipality-8 of the Mahottari district in southeastern Nepal on Sunday evening.

The injured include one police staffer and eight traders, according to the APF.

Police Inspector Balaram Gautam says around 50 traders had pelted stones at the APF squad at the border outpost in Matihani at around 8 pm yesterday. They also vandalised booths established to test people crossing the border for coronavirus.

The traders, however, accused the police of seeking bribe to let their goods across the border and resorted to beating when they denied.
