Janakpurdham, May 30
Two children have drowned in a pit dug by a local brick kiln at Gothbanauli, Ramgopalpur municipality-9 of the Mahottari district in southeastern Nepal, on Saturday evening.
The victims have been identified as Aashik Kumar Mandal, 10, and his younger brother, Prem Kumar, 9, sons of local Ram Karan Mandal.
Prakash Bista, the spokesperson of the District Police Office, says they died after falling into the pit dug to extract clay. The pit had water collected after rainfall on Saturday.
The locals had taken them to a primary health centre for treatment, which referred the case to the District Hospital in Jaleshwar. However, the children died within minutes.
Witnesses say they had gone to the pit while playing.
The bodies have been kept at Jaleshwar Hospital for postmortem whereas further investigation is underway.
