Kathmandu police arrest 11 for IPL betting

Kathmandu, April 26

Police in Kathmandu have arrested 11 persons for their alleged involvement in betting on the ongoing Indian Premier League games.

Betting is considered a form of gambling in Nepal, and any involvement in it amounts to be a criminal offence as per the Gambling Act.

They were arrested at Thamel and Jhochhen areas of the city during an operation conducted by the Metropolitan Police Crime Division recently.

“We are preparing to file a case against them,” the chief of the division, SSP Chandra Kubel Khapung, says, adding the suspects had used social networking channels such as Viber and WhatsApp to indulge themselves in the illegal act.
