Kathmandu, April 30
Doctors at the Norvic International Hospital in Kathmandu have begun treating former queen Komal Shah with plasma therapy after her health did not improve with oxygen support only.
She was shifted to the intensive care unit of the hospital on Wednesday evening after her health deteriorated. Shah, along with former king Gyanendra Shah and the couple’s daughter Prerana, was admitted to the hospital last week.
They had contracted Covid-19 after attending a religious festival in India.
The hospital says King Gyanendra’s condition is normal and stable although he has also been given oxygen support. Prerana is okay without requiring oxygen support.
Plasma therapy is in practice in Nepal for the treatment of Covid-19 patients since August 2020.
It is a medical process of removing a plasma with antibodies against a virus from the person who has combatted the virus and giving it to the second person to help him/her fight the disease. Various other countries have also used their method in the Covid-19 response.
The method does not ensure a complete recovery but makes the recovery quicker.
