Kathmandu’s 75-year-old infected days after getting Covid-19 vaccine’s 1st dose

Kathmandu, March 23

As fears of another wave of the Covid-19 spread are on the rise, a 75-year-old man in Kathmandu has been found infected with the coronavirus even after he received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The man was vaccinated on March 7, informs Dr Sagar Rajbhandari, the director of the Sjhukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital in Kathmandu.

It takes around one month after the vaccination for a person to develop immunity, but he got infected before that, according to Dr Rajbhandari. “That’s why, we need to be cautious,” he says.

The person has symptoms such as pneumonia and cough.

Meanwhile, the official says the rate of infection among the tests has increased at the hospital of late. On Monday, 74 persons were tested there and six got positive results.

Until one week ago, just one or two cases would be positive every day, according to Dr Rajbhandari.
