Baluwatar land scam: Court tells govt to submit decisions of Madhav K Nepal, Baburam Bhattarai

Kathmandu, March 29

The Supreme Court has ordered the government to submit documents related to the cabinet decisions during the premiership of Madhav Kumar Nepal and Baburam Bhattarai in connection with the privatisation of various plots of government lands in Baluwatar of Kathmandu.

Hearing a writ filed by senior advocate Bal Krishna Neupane on Monday, a division bench of justices Anil Kumar Sinha and Hari Prasad Phuyal made the decision.

Neupane had filed the case demanding the two former prime ministers be indicted on the charge.

On February 5, 2020, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, the anti-corruption constitutional body had indicted 175 people including three former ministers, 57 former or current government officials, and 115 former and current owners and users of the land in one of the biggest corruption cases of the country.

While doing so, the commission had spared Nepal and Bhattarai stating it was not authorised to investigate policy decisions of the cabinet. However, the public and the opposition parties had protested the decision claiming it was politically biased.
