Kathmandu, March 30
The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control says it has filed cases against 78 businesses in the Kathmandu valley on the charge of selling substandard goods or selling them without meeting criteria, in the past eight months.
The department says these enterprises were booked and indicted since the beginning of the current fiscal year (mid-July 2020) based on findings of market monitoring and complaints filed by the public. The Kathmandu District Administration Office is authorised to hear such cases.
It has been reported that 35 cases were about substandard goods, 23 about unlabelled goods, 12 about polluted goods and six were about other offences.
Of the cases, most (11) are related to drinking water, followed by instant noodles (seven), spices (six), ghee (five), and cooking oil (five), according to a statement issued by the department’s spokesperson Mohan Krishna Maharjan.
Four of the cases are related to bakery products, livestock feed, sauce, honey, dalmoth-bhujiya, and buiscits each, according to Maharjan.
There are cases of substandard sweets, yoghurts, rice, beer, and beans also.
