Mahottari: Ageing couple missing for one week

Janakpurdham, February 28

Police in the Mahottari district of southeastern Nepal have said they are yet to find the whereabouts of an ageing couple who are missing since Monday last week.

Musafir Jha (66) and his wife Geeta Devi (60), residents of Pipara rural municipality-5, are incommunicado since February 22.

Police have suspected they might have been abducted, however, no evidence has been found so far.

The couple would stay there with their younger daughter-in-law and grandchildren.

Musafir was a former staffer at the District Land Revenue Office. Investigators surmise he has been kidnapped by a landlord in connection with a land dispute case.

“We are investigating considering economic, social and familiar aspects. It might be the land dispute, but we are still probing,” Province 2 Police Chief DIG Dhiraj Pratap Singh says.

Meanwhile, the family has urged the police administration to expedite the investigation.
