Kathmandu, December 27
Guo Yezhou, a vice-minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China, is arriving in Kathmandu on Sunday to express concerns over the recent split in the ruling Nepal Communist Party amid the deepening political crisis in Nepal.
Guo’s visit is happening at a time when people believe China had a role in unifying the then CPN-Maoist Centre and the CPN-UML in 2018 and hence it is not happy with the recent split.
In the wake of the division, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Hou Yanqi, has also expedited her political engagements with both factions of the split party.
“The Chinese Communist Party has already expressed its worries over the split. The visit is taking place to express the same concern,” a high-level source within the NCP says.
Sources say the visiting officer will also advise leaders from both the sides to reconcile as far as possible.
Likewise, the Beijing government is also concerned about if the rising political instability in the country could affect the implementation of various agreements signed between the two countries. Chinese Ambassador Hou had expressed her concerns over this during a recent meeting with the NCP’s Dahal-Nepal faction leader Barsha Man Pun.
