NCP secretariat to discuss task force report Saturday

A meeting of the NCP secretariat

Kathmandu, August 25

The ruling Nepal Communist Party has called its secretariat meeting for this Saturday.

The meeting will discuss a report submitted by a task force that two chairpersons of the party–KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal–had formed to suggest solutions to the dispute between them.

The task force had submitted the report to the two chairpersons last Saturday, suggesting Oli should be allowed to lead the government for a full term whereas Dahal should be given additional rights to govern the party.

Oli and Dahal held a meeting this morning and agreed to call the secretariat meeting for Saturday, according to party insiders.

The ruling party is in a crisis for the past two months since a majority of the standing committee members, including Dahal, questioned Oli’s leadership.

When the party’s standing committee meeting began on June 24, Dahal had demanded Oli’s resignation from the positions of party chair and prime minister. Oli, however, has been refusing to give up even one position, leading the party to the months-long stalemate. Following the dispute, the standing committee meeting has been repeatedly postponed without discussing any item of the set agenda.
