Nearly two years after they split, Bibeksheel Nepali Party and Sajha Party have begun the next round of talks for a merger again.
The two parties had merged as Bibeksheel Sajha Party in the run-up to the 2017 parliamentary elections. However, they had split in early January 2019.
But, now, the two parties have started merger talks recently. Bibeksheel Nepali has formed a committee under Ranju Darshana to talk to the other party about the unification. Samiksha Baskota leads such a committee in Sajha.
Both the sides have said the talks in the past two months have been positive and heading towards a conclusion. However, they are yet to discuss who will lead the party. It is noteworthy that the tussle between the two leaders–Rabindra Mishra and Ujjwal Thapa–was a reason for the split of the party in 2019.
It has been learned that the negotiators have aimed at making the unification wider by incorporating various political groups such as the ones led by Ramesh Kharel and Gyanendra Shahi.
