Nepal bars govt hospital chiefs barred from private practice

Kathmandu, July 28

The government has barred chiefs of government-run hospitals from private practice.

Till now, they were allowed to work privately after acquiring approval from the Ministry of Health. However, the provision has been scrapped now. Now onwards, other government doctors except the hospital chiefs also cannot identify themselves as government doctors while in private practice.

Sources in the ministry say the decision is taken in order to implement the government announcement of ‘one doctor: one health institution’ included in the budget statement for this year.

The ministry has already issued a circular to all government hospitals across the country to implement the decision made by Minister Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal last Friday.
