AS the stalemate in the ruling Nepal Communist Party continues, its influential leader Bamdev Gautam has switched his position in the intra-party division. He has issued a six-point statement that clearly communicates he is now an ally of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

In the statement, the party’s vice-chairman, already notorious for changing his positions to meet his personal interests, has proposed that Oli stay as the prime minister for his full term and as the party chair till the next convention. Earlier, he had also demanded Oli’s resignation from both the positions.

Even with Gautam switching, Oli is still in the minority in both the nine-member secretariat and the 45-member standing committee. However, a few leaders close to Oli have said Ram Bahadur Thapa is also with them to prove the majority in the secretariat.

Meanwhile, leaders close to the other camp led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal have accused Oli of unilaterally postponing the standing committee meeting today.
