Japan to provide additional Rs 335 million for School Sector Development Programme

Kathmandu, July 23

Japan is providing additional 300 million Japanese yen (approximately Rs 335 million) to the government of Nepal to implement the School Sector Development Programme in the fifth year.

Japanese Ambassador to Nepal, Masamichi Saigo, and Finance Secretary Shishir Kumar Dhungana signed an agreement in this regard on Thursday. On the same occasion, the grant agreements for the SSDP were signed and exchanged between Shree Krishna Nepal, the Ministry of Finance Joint Secretary, and Yumiko Asakuma, the Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency in Nepal.

The project started in 2016 aims to consolidate gains from previous reform programmes and continue crucial reforms needed in the school education sector. It is believed that the project will produce the human resources needed to elevate the country’s status from a least developed country by 2022 and to reach the goal of achieving the status of the level of the middle-income country by 2030.
