Nepali Congress HoR member Chhantyal no more

Kathmandu, July 1

Gyan Kumar Chhantyal, a House of Representatives member representing the main opposition party Nepali Congress, has died on Wednesday.

The 66-year-old politician, elected to the House through the proportional representative system, was undergoing treatment at Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre in Kathmandu. A permanent resident of Burtibang, Dhorpatan municipality-1 of Baglung, Chhantyal was also a member of the second Constituent Assembly.

Dron Kunwar, the Nepali Congress Baglung-2 chief, says Chhantyal would be cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat in Kathmandu this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives meeting scheduled for today will not discuss any agenda owing to the death. The House meeting will adjourn after endorsing a condolence motion.
