Kathmandu, June 30
The government has said locust swarms that were first seen in the country last Saturday have reached 24 districts of the country as of Tuesday noon.
The Locust Information Centre under the Plant Quarantine and Pesticide Management Centre says the swarms have caused damage to crops of maize, rice, and banana in those districts.
The centre’s chief Ram Krishna Subedi says Rupandehi, Bara, Parsa, Sarlahi, Makawanpur, and Kapilvastu districts are the most affected. Rautahat, Chitwan, Sindhuli, Kavre, Ramechhap, Palpa, Syangja, Gulmi, Pyuthan, Panchthar, Udayapur, Khotang, and Kailali districts are also affected.
Subedi informs the district-based agricultural officials have begun sending reports of the estimated losses, adding the exact amount of nationwide loss is yet to be calculated.
