Karnali prepares to double perks for local officials amid Covid-19 crisis

The Karnali Provincial Assembly is preparing to double remunerations and other perks for elected people’s representatives of local units despite the growing Covid-19 crisis in the country.

A bill about the pays and perks of local level representatives–from mayors to ward members–is being amended soon, sources in the Provincial Assembly Secretariat say. The law will add the burden of more than Rs 30 million to the province’s monthly expenses.

The bill proposes providing monthly expenses to the local officials for the internet and newspapers and magazines also. Likewise, the officials will get transport facilities and a budget for fuel even if they have their own vehicles.

Allowances for meetings, festivals, and visits have also been hiked.
